Gone are the days of calmly sitting in one spot playing with toys. Gone are the days of slowly scooting and rolling with great effort to investigate a new item of interest. Samantha has left the simple life behind. Our girl is MOBILE!! She's crawling fast enough for me to wonder where she's gone every time I turn my back for two seconds. It's quite an accomplishment, considering she could barely even roll over when we took her to the US in June.Her latest big news is that practically over night she's learned to STAND UP! Well, not all by herself, of course. But she'll stand up next to anything she can grab hold of (most dangerously the coffee table or Dad's twisty office chair). You can tell she really thinks she's cool by the grin on her face, little show off. She climbs up to the couch and has started taking steps to walk around it. She also loves the bookshelf, for all the fun books (aka. toys) at her disposal. And the fireplace -- she enjoys sucking the metal grate, even though I discourage it.
Her favorite stance is in the corner of her crib. She grabs the bars and pulls up, then yells with proud confidence, announcing her achievement. It's really cute, except when it happens to be three in the morning. Since we've had guests, Sam's been staying in our room the past few nights. The first night in there, she was awake five different times between 1 and 7 a.m., standing up and yelling at us --just because she could. Then last night she upped the ante and decided to stand up every time I tried to lay her down. We played this game of up and down for over an hour -- at 1 a.m. She was tired enough to be crying almost the entire time, but apparently not tired enough to sleep, when she could be standing!?? Funny girl.
Sam is scared of the vacuum cleaner. Terrified, actually. I turned it on the other day, thinking she'd be fascinated by the fun noise. Instead, she screamed and started shaking, with huge tears just streaming down her face. I tried to hold her while I vacuumed, to show her it's okay and it wouldn't hurt her. That was even worse, poor thing. After five seconds of that she was in hysterics so badly I had to rock her a full five minutes before her breathing was normal again. Later, I even tried vacuuming upstairs while she was downstairs. More hysteria. I guess we just won't vacuum anymore?? She also reacted the same way to the mixer a few days ago, so maybe we won't mix anything anymore either?
She's really starting to enjoy music, it seems. She smiles and gets so excited when her dad sings to her in the mornings. And I've started clapping and singing, which she thinks is funny. Today I let her play the piano for awhile. She was "singing along" loudly and even occasionally using her feet to keep the melody going. Do we have a musician on our hands, then?

Oh my gosh! I am amazed. Our girls are doing the exact same things and the exact same time. We lowered Brie's crib even lower last night because she thinks it is so cool to stand up and look out. This morning I went in and found her standing and looking around for me, so I took a picture. I then came and checked your blog and saw an identical picture of Samantha standing in her crib. Wow. They really are best friends.
The tricky one for me is that Brie pulls herself up on the couch to standing and then . . . let's go!!! She doesn't know how to stand on her own, but I guess she is pretty confident that she'll figure it out.
Hey--What a DOLL!!! Thanks so very much for letting us in on Sammie's 'antics'. I printed off pages and pages of this stuff to take over to Great-Grandma Hone and I KNOW she's gonna love it just as much as "I" do!!
I really enjoyed your little Re-cap of past and up-coming events. It keeps us all 'in the loop', and the Up-coming events sound really Exciting! It sounds like you were able to get that Vienna Marriott transaction to go through AFTER all, so....good for you!!

Kamber- Hey, I love seeing your life in ENgland. And Sammie is SO cute. What a fun age. I remember the beginning of standing, and doing it in the middle of the night. I told my pediatrician that my kids would stand and often times cry in the wee hours. He told me that sometimes they stand,semi-conciously, and then dont' know how to get back down. I just thought I'd share this pearl. Don't know if it's true or not, but... it would explain the crying. Take care. Laura
Hey... Sammie has got some gorgeous red hair! How fun. My tidbit on the waking in the night is, you can expect it with every new physical development each of your babies have. It is something they are thinking about and excited about, and they literally wake up in the night to practice it for a couple of nights. Walking is the last one, and then you should be back to solid nights sleep.
Wow! thanks for all the comments, everyone! I like the helpful tips from Laura and Teresa. It makes sense, actually. And yes, she seems to be more settled this week, now that it's not such a novelty (and she's back in her own room).
