Yesterday was a great day for Samantha. First day of school!
Samantha was very excited about school this year, after having such a great time in Kindergarten last year. A few weeks ago, we got a packet of info from her school, telling her the schedule, rules, and class assignment. How exciting to realize that her kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Winter, moved up and will also be her first grade teacher!?!? (At least for a little while.)
She had two teachers last year, and has two teachers again this year. But having that continuity of keeping dear, sweet Mrs. Winter has been such a comfort and relief to her... Remember all those "first day" nerves of wondering who your teacher will be? Samantha had NONE of those feelings -- until right as we walked up to the door of the school. Then she panicked for just a few seconds until a friend from last year called her name. They discovered they'd be in the same class again this year, and ran off holding hands, excitedly. Samantha didn't even turn around to say goodbye. That's our school girl!
Here she is in her new outfit, with the name tag she decorated herself, with her favorite school activity -- art.

What a cutie, I can't believe she is starting school! They grow up so fast! Jessica's, Emily, started 1st grade today too, she was very excited! Cherish every moment!

When did Sammie get so tall?! She's beautiful! Glad her first day went so well for her.
What a cute little FIRST GRADER!! I'm glad she got to have her same teacher--that made for a much 'calmer' feeling that first day, I'm sure! Remember when she was just a 'highly intelligent' little toddler--climbing up on chairs to reach and OPEN packages of cookies when you lived in London?? And remember how she was HUMMING "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" all the way through--when she was only FOURTEEN MONTHS OLD???
(I remember driving you two home from Salt Lake City with her singing that and you pointed out to me that the "Twinkle Twinkle" song and "The Alphabet Song" had the SAME TUNE, and I had never before REALIZED that!!!) Weird mom, eh??!
Anyway--Barbara's sure RIGHT--They grow up really FAST, so be sure to treasure has many moments as you can! Love, Mom
